Nagoya Station Area

Nagoya Station is the main hub positioned right in the middle of the country and serving a link between Osaka Tokyo, down to Mikawa and up to Fukui, Nagano and Gifu. Officially the tallest station in the world, owing to the twin towers which accommodate the Marriot Hotel and a huge shaopping centre, the station can be seen from miles away.

From Nagoya station the Shinkansen runs on the Tokaido Honsen which takes you up to Tokyo and Yokohama and down through Osaka, through to Hiroshima and Hakata (Fukuoka)

The Main JR lines run services along the same routes using rapid and local trains and also down and through Aichi.

Nagoya also runs the Meitetsu 名鉄 lines which are local to the region and so serve Aichi, Gifu extensively.

There is also the Kintetsu line which runs through to Mie Prefecture and a special “Urban Liner” which takes you to Osaka is just over 2 hours.

Nagoya station is also where the highway buses run from so its convenient to get around Japan quite cheaply.

Finally, there is the subway which from Nagoya station, 2 lines can be accessed directly (Higashiyama 東山 and Sakura-Dori 桜通り). Getting to Nagoya famous shopping area (Sakae) is only 2 stops on the Higashiyama line or just as close is to take the Sakura dori line for 3 stops to Hisaya-dori.
