Manaca Card

About the Manaca Card

Starting on February 11th 2011, the MANACA card has been introduced for travel on the subway地下鉄 and Meitestu名鉄line in Nagoya. “Tranpassとランパス cards, including Yurika cards and Panorama Cards can no longer be purchased, but they will still be usable until the last train departs at the end of February 29, 2012.

Features

The Manaca has many of the same features that can be found with the TOICA card which is used for JR trains in the region. The cards can be registered in a name or without and purchased from the regular ticket machines next to the tickets gates. The option of registering a name would then give you option of adding a season or limited time pass option to the card in the case that you are using the same train regularly – thus a discount would apply.

Other features include:

  • The card is rechargeable, which means that funds can be added to the card after it has been purchased.
  • It can be used as a prepaid card in restaurants and other shops to pay for goods instead of cash.
  • It allows a commuter pass to also be stored on it.
  • Working as a smart card, it can be read by the automatic gates by placing it on the smart card reader without having to insert the ticket directly.
  • Passengers can buy a commuter pass at any station.
  • In the case it is lost and has been bought in a passenger’s name, it can be replaced along with stored fare and any commuter pass that was stored on it.
  • It can be used an indefinite number of times as a regular fare card or commuter pass, so it doesn’t suffer a disposal problem like the single-use Tranpass cards (e.g.Where you would use 4900 yen of the card and be left with an unusable 100 yen).
  • Versatility – The Manaca card can be used on City buses, Meitetsu trains, the Aonami Line, the Yutorito Line, and the Toyohashi Railway. From Spring 2012 you will also be able to use the card on JR lines in the JR Tokai Area.
